Human Rights Campaign Endorses President Barack Obama for Reelection

May 29, 2011 1 comment

“President Obama has improved the lives of LGBT Americans more than any President in history,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese.

5/26/2011

Washington – The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, today announced its endorsement of President Barack Obama for reelection. The decision was made based on the President’s demonstrated commitment to LGBT equality and his record of accomplishment, from major legislative victories to critical administrative reforms.

“President Obama has improved the lives of LGBT Americans more than any President in history,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “In 2008 we were promised change and profound change is what we got.  More remains to be done and ensuring that President Obama is able to continue the forward momentum toward equality for another term is an absolute priority of the Human Rights Campaign.”

President Obama’s Administration’s record of accomplishment for the LGBT community includes:

  • Pressing for passage and signing legislation to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law that bans openly lesbian, gay and bisexual servicemembers.
  • Pressing for passage and signing an inclusive hate crimes law – the first federal statute to explicitly protect LGBT individuals.
  • Determining that the administration believes Section 3 of DOMA to be unconstitutional and refusing to defend the discriminatory law in court.
  • Requiring hospitals nationwide to adopt LGBT-inclusive non-discrimination policies regarding visitation.

In addition, the administration’s policies: added gender identity to the equal employment opportunity policy governing all federal jobs; permitted married same-sex couples to use their marriage licenses as evidence of a name change for passports and instituted more reasonable standards for changing a gender marker on passports; allowed the Census Bureau to release data on married same-sex couples; extended a number of benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees possible under existing authority; launched a National HIV/AIDS Strategy and efforts to target populations most at risk; required abstinence-only-until-marriage sex education programs be inclusive of and non-stigmatizing toward LGBT youth; and recognized LGBT families are protected under a host of laws from the Violence Against Women Act to family and medical leave regulations to housing programs.

More information on the President’s LGBT record is available at: www.hrc.org/ObamaEndorsement.

“The records of the other candidates seeking the presidency should be a wake-up call to fair-minded Americans,” said Solmonese. “As the fight for equality moves forward, President Obama is marching with us while the alternatives would stop us in our tracks.”

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

Tim Pawlenty releases his campaign video

It is becoming increasingly difficult to spot the difference between campaign videos for Republican Primary candidates.

Tim Pawlenty released his campaign video in a celebration of all that is black and white.

Sorry wrong video, that one may have been more honest about Republican plans for the US economy. I think this is the proper one but it is hard to tell the difference as all they seem to have added is music, balloons and an attack on those music and balloons.

So yet another Republican is promising a land of milk and honey, provided that enough ordinary people slash their benefits to give tax cuts to billionaires. Pawlenty is calling Republican voters stupid and he hopes to bilk them for money.

His campaign has about as much chance of happening as the “rapture” that was also promised to GOP fundies.

His qualification for GOP Presidential candidate, he isn’t the idiot that named their sons after an athletic event, Track Enfield, or the disability Trisomy G.

Kevin Dujan - Climbing out of his pram

Aww poor Kevin Dujan, his readers are confused about why poor diddums Kevin is spending his time trolling poor little me and not looking after his blog.

The defenders of the increasingly irrelevant blog that tied its mast to Sarah Palin and far right racism, which now wallows in the same level of relevance as Bible Spice herself want to know what has happened to poor old Kevin. He considers such talk heresy. Literally..

We’ve received a number of comments regarding Kevin’s lack of posts of late. Believe me, we miss Kevin too, and we look forward to his return.

Kevin considers complaints about moderation policy and procedure, and complaints about content, to be a form of Eeyoreism, so those kinds of comments are not published. Complaints and whining are simply not helpful for Kevin’s morale, nor for the morale of anyone who reads Hillbuzz and is dedicated to defeating the Leftists bent on destroying our great nation.

Hillbuzz is blessed with thousands of readers, and literally hundreds of sharp, educated, engaged commenters. While Kevin is certainly the star of Hillbuzz.org, he feels the community you have all built here is just as important. Kevin is a gifted writer, humorist and political analyst. But he can’t do it alone. No one person can defeat the Left. It will take the efforts of millions of us, working together toward a common goal. Anything that gets in the way of that will not be tolerated on Hillbuzz.org. And that includes whining, Eeyoreism, trolling, and defeatism. As Kevin would say, instead of complaining that he’s not here, put down your Pepsi, get up off the couch, and take a minute to do some writing of your own.

Write to your Congressman/woman. Write to your Senators. Write to your State Representative and State Senator. Write to your Mayor or town council. Write to companies who support Leftists. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Write a letter of encouragement to your favorite candidate. Write to friends and family and encourage them to get involved. Write your own Tea Party blog. Write a parody song. Write some anti-Obama haiku. Write a note to Kevin to let him know you appreciate his work.

And feel free to share your writings here, if you think they can be useful to others. If we see a particularly great comment, we may elevate it to the status of a guest post.

But please…don’t waste your irreplaceable, valuable time by moaning and whining. About anyone or anything. We won’t publish it because it doesn’t do you–or Kevin–or our cause any good.

Thank you for your support of Kevin and Hillbuzz.

So get back to giving him money and never ever raise the USO issue, or ask why he spends his time trolling blogs like this one.

who’s there?

EVERYBODY

oops, pick another date

Oops.

Republicans who believed the rapture are the ones who also think Sarah Palin is electable and that the Tea Party looked out for their interests. Nuff said.

Dear Rich Republican

I can protect you from the Godless come the rapture.

I understand that you are concerned about what God awful Communist may take over your home on May 23, the day after rapture. May I humbly suggest that in advance you bequeath it to me

I do believe that the free market for many things is the best way to manage scarce resources on the planet. I was also christened a Catholic and I was confirmed at the age of 11.

Obviously I do not meet the exacting standards required of rapture come 22 May, which is why I fully expect to remain on the planet next Monday.

I may not have perfected my belief in the free market, Christianity or other such things. An ex boyfriend or two might raise your concerns. However I am a good guy and will not trash your place.

So I suggest that you leave me your property and sign up in advance of May 22, after all some godless Communist may lay claim to your hard work God Given property otherwise. If by any chance you are not raptured up, and I have no reason to doubt your Godliness, then arrangements can be made. I could rent you a spare room or two. Or put you up in the Garden. Many of your rooms may not be available as they may be filled with people who are currently homeless. The poor will always be with us, but there will be less if you give them a head start of an address. A lack of a room for you will only be because as you have repeatedly stated be because you have not been pious enough. Remember, hurry. This will only ever happen once in this lifetime. Your doubt about your ability to be raptured will result in you failing to be raptured.

Where’s Breitbart now? 9 Top Republicans sentenced to 150 years for vote fraud.

The BRAD BLOG has reported on the Clay County election rigging conspiracy since the nine defendants — seven of them were the county’s top-ranking election officials, the other two a married business couple who made millions in contracts based on the outcome of the stolen elections — were rounded up and arrested in 2009 for what federal officials described as the tail end of “decades” of manipulated elections there.

In addition to buying and selling votes and falsifying election results reports in primary and general elections in 2002, 2004 and 2006, the conspirators were also found to have changed the votes of voters after they were cast on electronic ES&S iVotronic touch-screen voting machines once voters had thought they had finished voting.

Following one of the officials, Republican election judge Paul Bishop, changing his plea to guilty and cooperating with prosecutors shortly after the arrests, the other eight were charged in a federal racketeering conspiracy and found guilty in March of last year. This past March they were all finally sentenced to a total of 1,871 months — 156 years — in federal prison. (We were neck deep in Fukushima coverage at the time of their separate sentencing throughout March and hadn’t gotten the chance to report on it until now.)

Why is Breibart not interested in this?

Could it be that they are not black, actually did commit vote fraud and are Rethugs? Racist POS.

Louisiana’s legislature voted unanimously to pass a law called the “Forced Abortion Prevention Sign Act,” which, reinforces the already existing 24-hour waiting period before obtaining an abortion, as well as the requirement that abortion providers give their patients a state published pamphlet filled with the blatantly untrue “facts” about abortion, including the repeatedly debunked myth that it might cause cancer. It also requires medical facilities providing abortions to post a large notice (16 inches by20  inches) stating the following

Notice: Women’s Rights and Pregnancy Resources You can’t be forced.
* It is unlawful for an abortion to be forced on you without your voluntary and informed consent, regardless of your age.
* You and the father. The father of your child is liable to assist in the support of the child, even if he has offered to pay for an abortion.
* You and adoption. The law permits adoptive parents to pay costs of prenatal care, childbirth and newborn care.
* You are not alone. Many public and private agencies are willing to help you to carry your child to term, and to assist after your child’s birth
